Nuova Simonelli Oscar Espresso Machine

Product Description

To those who thought an affordable heat exchanger espresso machine would never exist, the Nuova Simonelli Oscar Direct Connect has arrived to prove them wrong. Using the quality construction of many other heat exchanging machines, the Oscar comes in at several hundred dollars lower than the competition without sacrificing quality. The Oscar is offered in two water source types, a plumbed and a tank model. The direct connect model is best suited for those users interested in high-volume home production or small cafe settings. Easy to use and stylish to look at, great for pulling shots whether you tamp your own or adapt to use with espresso pods. Features & Functionality of the Nuova Simonelli Oscar Heat Exchanger: Double boilers are so 2010 -- Heat exchangers provide most of the same benefit at a much lower price point. Brew and steam at the same time with this unit as well. Simple Interface: Two buttons and a steam knob. You wont need to spend hours trying to figure out what each feature does, making it easy to pull this guy out of the box, dial in your grinder and make espresso pronto. Professional Portafilter: This machine uses a high quality and durable 58mm portafilter. Direct Connect: Plumb this machine into your water supply for high-capacity home production or small cafe settings. Large Water Tank: 2.3 liter reservoir means you won't have to fill up every couple shots. Great Steam Pressure: This steam wand is both capable of good microfoam as well as very quick temperature increases, blasting milk to latte temperature in seconds. Cup Warmer: The top of this machine functions perfectly as a cup warmer, with about enough space to old nine shot glasses cappuccino cups. Sturdy Construction: This is a durable commercial quality espresso machine. Removable Tray: Easily adjust the tray or remove it completely to accommodate taller cups.

Espresso Lover!
By D. McClure
I have had this espresso maker for at least 2 years and I really like it! I usually make about 3-4 drinks/day or about 12-16oz of espresso. The only issue that I have had with this machine is when I don't realize the giant water tank has gone empty the pump runs dry. More of a user error than anything else b/c the water level is easy to see, sometimes I just forget to check it. It takes a bit of time to get it to start pulling water again; but if you keep an eye on the level it's not an issue. You do need to pull the plastic frother part off each time you use it and just run it under water and pop it back on, watch your fingers b/c, as expected, it is pretty hot. The stainless is great, not the painted to look like stainless like I've gotten in other small appliances, but the good stuff. I have recommended this to many of my friends and I continue to do so.

Perfect
By Dom
I have owned this machine for over a year and a half and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever with it. I normally do not write reviews but thought I should comment so people knew what they were getting. First, the frother tip is plastic, yes that means you have to clean it. It's very easy, run it under hot water and its clean. Second, this is an appliance and yes it will use power. If you blow a fuse in your use, it's not the machine's fault. Third, I use this everyday, sometimes twice a day, and absolutely love it. Its perfect for daily use and my wife and I have already bought a second one for our weekend home.

poor qualitiy
By Victoria Sansome
Works great for a year, but the frother has a plastic tip, and after cleaning it, it does not work. I do not recommend if you want a machine that lasts. There are less expensive machines that will last longer.

Really great and easy espresso!
By Debra Fletcher
I've tried 'em all, traveled to France and Italy, etc.Not only do you get the real "Crema" on your espresso (that golden coffee froth at the top of the espresso cup), but the frother wand is so strong and powerful it could steam a gallon of milk. Just clean the wand with warm water right after you use it each time (takes less than 10 seconds to wipe it down) and it will serve you well.ONLY GRIPE: I am still trying to find the pods you can use with it (you can use regular ground espresso or it has an adaptable pod).

Would be great if it worked
By smokejumper
The Talea Touch makes terrific coffee and has functions that are well thought out and easy to use. The only problem is that they can't make one that works.I bought mine in Dec. 2009 from Seattle Coffee Gear. By March 2010, I had returned my third defective machine to Saeco. All three had different problems; the first leaked all over the counter when brewing (an internal hose defect), the second could not be programmed or hold a date and time; the third has a steam wand that leaked (poured) water during the brew cycle - enough to fill a shot glass for each coffee made. As of September, I have had to return it two additional times for repairs - a total of 5 times.Saeco will fix or replace this again but what does that tell you about their QC? Saeco customer service has been helpful and courteous - once you reach them. Be prepared to wait > 45 minutes on their customer support line to reach a human being.Saeco came highly recommended and it does makes great coffee and lattes when it works. If you like Audi's, this may be the coffee machine for you.One last note, I have attempted to submit this review many times at Seattle Coffee gear and somehow it never appears on their website.

Poorly thought out
By johndr44
This machine makes good coffee, after you have spent a few minutes figuring out why the red light is on; this light has to be out before the machine will consent to work. The water container is too small, and water is lost to the drip tray which is also too small, so not many cups can be made before it locks you out. On filling it with coffee it's hard to get the red light to go away as it is finicky about the lid. The grounds container fills up faster than it needs to because of its design. It's very frustrating compared to the Saeco machine (Vienna Super Automatic) it replaced. For $1000 it should be better. And did I mention it demands to be descaled quite often even if you are using RO water in it?
