We bought this through DirectBuy, so didn't have a chance to inspect it first. But we should have done some product research instead of jumping at the good price. The unit had some nice features: custom savings for 5 users, and multiple brew selections, but it failed right out of the box. The centre LCD worked for the first 6 cups, then went solid blue. Unlike our SAECO (which we love), the lack of an LCD means there are no diagnostics, and it is impossible to determine what stage of the cycle the machine is on. All programming is also lost. The initial cups of coffee seemed OK, perhaps a little weak, but we'll never know. The steamer is horrible: it requires a separate tygon/poly aspiration line which has to be flushed out after every use. The bean compartment is too small. The warm-up time is too long. Customer service is poor. Don't waste your money on this- you will be quickly disappointed.

Weak coffee, not worthy of calling espresso

We have tried loads of settings and it still produces mostly froth, with little coffee taste. Almost like bad office coffee or weak coffee from a cheap store or hotel.If you stand there with 3 cups and catch the pre brew and discard, save the good stuff, and discard the last 1/3 which is all froth, you get a decent cup of espresso. But for that price, you should get a great cup without all this nonsense. I have thrown out most cups, or save them to dump into iced coffee with lots of sugar. A real disappointment and not worth the money.

I used to like coffee, but this relationship is evolving quickly.

Some generous folks in the office (sadly, not me) pitched in and replaced the office drip coffee maker with this beast. Yes, it takes up a ton of room, and setting it up takes a little effort and patience, and refilling the water tank isn't a job that I fight for. However, dear heavens, is that good coffee. I have had the (lack of) pleasure of sampling the wares of Keurig, Flava, various drip coffee machines, Starbucks, Dunking Donuts, and the like. Some products were awful to tolerable. Others were reasonably good, especially on a cold day.This bad boy is a game changer. The product is rich, flavorful, delicious... Sure, the bean matters, BUT YOU CAN USE FRESH BEANS. AT WORK! Who knew? I was a coffee maybe every morning. I could take it or leave it. Not any more.But wait, I don't have to clean it up after every use, nor do I need to insert a pod!OK, so there isn't the same ability to choose your own flavor (do I want decaf-blech, and vanilla-ehh, or colombian-ugh?). You also need to buy beans, refill the water tank and eventually clean the machine (or something like that). However, you need to do that with a Keurig, etc.Sure, you need an office that will fork up a sizable sum for the machine, and since the coffee actually tastes good, coffee consumption will increase and the company (or someone) needs to buy whole bean coffee. And then someone needs to fill the water tank (every machine) and clean the machine (every machine).I don't work for a hedge fund and the people in the office are pretty normal/not snobby. We have under 20 people in the office - I assume that if there were more people this would be less tenable as an option.With all of the above being said, I love this machine. I love everything it makes. Go convince other people to pay for it at your place of work and bring your relationship with coffee to a new level.UPDATE (2/27/13): There is a few quirks that are becoming apparent. There are possible water-leakage issues, if the machine is not set up correctly. I am not empowered to fix the machine, so I am not going to take the risk, but I have a feeling that a minor tweak would solve the problem. In addition, the grinder might have some issues getting dark, deep-roasted beans into the "grinding chute." That leaves two options (i) go with a medium to lightly roasted bean; or (ii) if the grinder is grinding but no beans are going in, you need to push the beans into the grinder chute - push them in with your fingers and it should work. In the end, the coffee is still delicious. Love it.
